What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?

RPL is a UGC-recognised process that allows working professionals to convert their work experience into academic credits โ€” and complete a degree by studying only the final year.

The principle is straightforward: if you have spent years working in a field, you have already acquired the knowledge, skills, and competencies that a university degree is designed to teach. RPL formally validates that learning.

Your documented work experience is mapped against the academic curriculum of your chosen degree. Where your knowledge matches the learning outcomes, you receive the equivalent academic credits โ€” and enrol directly into the final year.

The degree you receive is issued by the awarding university, carries no distinction from a regular degree, and is valid everywhere a campus degree is โ€” government jobs, private employment, promotions, competitive exams, and higher studies.

Official UGC Recognition: The UGC formally recognised the RPL framework on 14 November 2024, aligning it with NEP 2020 and the National Credit Framework (NCrF). TIMS is among the first institutes in India to implement this pathway for working professionals.
How Your Experience Becomes Credits
๐Ÿ’ผ
Work experience is assessed Employment letters, payslips, and business records formally establish your knowledge and competency in the field.
๐Ÿ“
Mapped to degree outcomes Your competency is matched against Semesters 1โ€“4 of your chosen degree program's official learning outcomes.
๐Ÿ†
Credits awarded Wherever your knowledge genuinely matches the outcomes, you receive the academic credits โ€” no re-studying what you already know.
๐ŸŽ“
Standard university degree issued The certificate from the university is identical in every legal and professional respect to any campus degree. No RPL notation โ€” ever.
How It Works

From Work Experience to Recognised Degree

Six structured steps โ€” starting with a completely free eligibility check and no obligation at any stage.

1
Free Eligibility Assessment

Speak with a TIMS counsellor who reviews your work background, industry, years of experience, and documentation. We confirm whether you qualify and which degree best matches your profile. No cost, no commitment.

2
Experience Documentation

Gather the required documents โ€” employment certificates, payslips, business registration, GST records, or other verifiable evidence. Our team provides a precise checklist based on your specific situation.

3
Academic Assessment

Your documented experience is formally mapped against the learning outcomes of Semesters 1โ€“4 of your chosen degree. Credits are awarded only where your demonstrated competency genuinely matches those outcomes.

4
Credit Transfer & Enrolment

Years 1 and 2 credits are officially transferred. You are enrolled directly into Year 3 of your chosen program at the partner university. You skip what you already know.

5
Complete Year 3 Online

Study the final year entirely online โ€” recorded lectures, flexible schedule, zero campus visits required. Designed for working professionals who cannot take leave from full-time employment.

6
Degree Awarded

The UGC-recognised university issues your degree. A standard, unrestricted certificate with no RPL notation โ€” valid for all purposes, nationwide. Indistinguishable from any campus degree from that university.

๐ŸŽ“

The result: A fully UGC-recognised degree, identical on paper to any campus graduate from the same university โ€” valid for government employment, private sector, UPSC, PSC, and further studies across India.

Is This Genuine?

How TIMS's RPL Program Differs From Fraudulent Schemes

This is a question worth asking โ€” and we take it seriously. Here is exactly how you can verify everything before committing to anything.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ
The UGC framework is real and public

The UGC formally adopted the RPL framework on 14 November 2024, as part of the NEP implementation agenda. The guidelines are published, publicly accessible, and aligned with the National Credit Framework (NCrF). This is an official, legislated educational pathway โ€” not a loophole.

๐ŸŽ“
The universities are real and verifiable

Every degree facilitated through TIMS is awarded by a UGC-DEB recognised university. Before you enrol, we tell you the university name and its UGC recognition number. Verify independently at ugcdeb.ac.in before making any payment.

๐Ÿ“‹
The assessment is real

RPL is not a degree you buy. Your work experience is formally assessed against the academic learning outcomes of your chosen program. Credits are awarded only where your demonstrated competency genuinely matches those outcomes. There are no shortcuts in the assessment process.

๐Ÿ“„
The degree is a standard university degree

The certificate issued carries no mark or notation indicating RPL. It is a standard degree from the awarding university โ€” identical in every legal and professional respect to a degree earned through any other route, including on-campus study.

โš ๏ธ How to spot a fraudulent scheme โ€” TIMS does none of these
โœ• No named, verifiable UGC-recognised university
โœ• Degree issued by the institute itself, not a university
โœ• No genuine assessment โ€” just payment and a certificate
โœ• Cannot be verified on the UGC-DEB website
โœ• Promises a degree with no study or assessment whatsoever

Verify everything before you pay. We encourage every candidate to check the awarding university on the official UGC-DEB portal โ€” and we will help you do it.

FAQ

Everything You Want to Know About RPL

Can't find your answer here? Our counsellors cover everything in the free eligibility call โ€” no obligation to enrol.

Ask a Counsellor โ€” Free
Will my employer accept an RPL degree? +
Yes. The degree certificate is issued by the awarding university and is a standard university degree โ€” it carries no notation indicating RPL. Employers, both government and private, have no basis to treat it differently from any other degree from that institution, and legally cannot do so.
Can I use the RPL degree for government jobs and PSC/UPSC? +
Yes โ€” UGC-DEB recognised degrees are accepted for central and state government recruitment, including UPSC, SSC, and state PSC examinations, subject to the specific eligibility criteria of each notification. Our counsellors can advise on any exam-specific requirements.
What if my experience doesn't fully match the degree I want? +
Our counsellors assess this during the free eligibility consultation. If there is a partial match, we explore whether a different program better suits your background or whether supplementary documentation can strengthen your application. We will be honest with you โ€” and we will not enrol you in a program where your eligibility is uncertain.
Can I pursue a PG degree through RPL without a related bachelor's degree? +
For postgraduate programs, a recognized bachelor's degree is a standard requirement, and it does not need to be in an exactly matching field for all programs, but some degree of relevance in your work experience is necessary. Our counselors assess this on a case-by-case basis.
Is there any exam or test as part of the RPL process? +
The RPL assessment is primarily based on documented work experience and may include a competency review. It is not a traditional entrance exam. The final year of study does involve university examinations as part of the online program. Our team will walk you through exactly what to expect.
What if I have more than 2 years of experience โ€” does that help? +
Additional years of experience can strengthen your application and demonstrate deeper competency. The minimum is 2 years; more experience in a directly relevant role generally makes the assessment more straightforward. All experience is considered during the free consultation.
Can I apply for RPL if I am still currently employed? +
Yes โ€” and most RPL candidates are. The final year is studied entirely online at your own pace, with no requirement to take leave or reduce your working hours. RPL is designed for people in full-time employment.
Is the RPL program available across India? +
TIMS currently serves working professionals across India. Contact our team to confirm availability and applicable universities for your location and chosen program.
How do I get started? +
Call or WhatsApp us, or fill in the eligibility form on this page. A TIMS counsellor will schedule a free consultation, review your background, confirm your eligibility, recommend the right program, and explain every step before you commit to anything.
